GeneralThe goal of the JP program is to act as a feeder program for the Pewaukee Pirates High School Baseball team. We strive to develop all players in a mix of positions and ensure a positive and fun environment for the players and families. We value developing players over winning every single game.
The Jr. Pirate Program consists of one to two teams per age group depending on the numbers and evaluations. (U7, U8, U9, U10, U11, U12, U13 and U14).
EligibilityThe program is open to boys and girls entering 1st-8th grades. Players must be enrolled in the Pewaukee School District or attend a private/parochial school and their family's residential address must be within the boundary lines of the Pewaukee School District. Any questions on residency requirements should be directed at the Junior Pirate Director [email protected] to determine eligibility.
CommitmentThis is a competitive program that requires substantial commitment on the part of players and their parents. You are making a commitment not just to PYB but also to the players, coaches and families that you are a team with.
The time commitment is typically one time a week in January and February, twice a week in March and April, and 3 times a week (sometimes more) in May, June and July.
We expect that during baseball season (early-April to mid-July) baseball takes priority over other sports. We do not recommend playing another sport on a travel or select team during baseball season.
Indoor workouts begin in January/February, when we start to build the foundation for a successful season. Players are expected to make the majority of their indoor workouts.
The regular season begins in early-April and runs through the end of July; Teams play 1-3 league games per week vs. teams throughout southeastern Wisconsin (50% of the games involve travel to other communities). Teams also play 1-6 weekend tournaments. Teams play from 20-50 games in a season.
CostsCosts are determined each year, but generally are around $600-$950 depending on age. We do offer payment plans as well to assist with spreading the cost out and financial assistance is available. Contact [email protected] for more info on financial assistance.
Uniforms are generally used for two years and are an additional cost above and beyond the registration fee.
Additional costs/fundraising can be incurred for teams traveling out of town for tournaments. U12 teams will play one out of state tournament. Past U12 teams have gone to Pigeon Forge, Branson, Myrtle Beach, Cooperstown, Omaha, Field of Dreams and other destinations.
Playing in our JP program is substantial commitment to you and your teammates. A minimum charge of $250 will be assessed for any cancellation after acceptance of offer. Final cancelation fee to be determined by the PYB Board.
VolunteeringPYB is a volunteer run organization across our board and coaches. Please consider coaching or volunteering in one of our many opportunities on the board or as a coordinator position.
A refundable $200 deposit is charged to each family and is returned after the volunteer requirement of 5 hours (per player) is complete at the end of the season. If your team plays in a Pewaukee tournament, you can expect to volunteer at that tournament. These are the program's most significant fundraising events and participation is mandatory for parents.
Tryout Process and Team SelectionPewaukee Youth Baseball (PYB) offers Select Level Baseball to ages 7U-14U through the Junior Pirate (JP) Program. For 7U, teams are split evenly, provided there are enough kids to field 2 teams with 10-13 players per team. For 8U-14U, teams are split according to skill level, with Black (A) and Red (B) teams of 10-13 players per team. Black (A) teams will participate at a higher level of competition than Red (B) teams. Please review Eligibility requirements above.
The JP Tryout Committee consists of 4-5 members of the Pewaukee Baseball community who have played baseball at the collegiate level and/or have extensive coaching experience, and includes the current head varsity baseball coach(es) at Pewaukee High School. The Primary objective of the JP program is to prepare athletes to compete at the high school level. The PHS varsity baseball coach(es) serve as non-voting advisory board members to PYB, as they see PYB as an integral part of the High School program’s success.

Player Performance During Previous Season
- Coach Evaluations (Hitting, Fielding, Pitching, Speed, Attitude, etc)
- Previous Year Coaches are asked to identify players who may benefit from a move up or a move down in levels
- A review of Gamechanger statistics
JP Tryout Evaluations
- For 7U-10U emphasis will be on Infield (ground balls hit by coach or by machine), Outfield (fly balls), Hitting (Batting Cage), Pitching/Arm Strength (Radar Gun)
-For 11U-14U emphasis will be placed on performance during a Scrimmage format
Team offers are e-mailed to parents via the Program Registration site within one week of tryouts (generally sooner). Offers must be accepted within 24 hours and accompanied by a minimum down payment of $200 of the registration fee. This cost is non-refundable. Decline notices are to follow once all acceptances have been received, and teams are formed. For those who do not make a JP team, PYB offers a competitive Recreational (Summer League) Baseball program to help continue developing baseball skills.
PYB will not respond to parent emails with questions regarding results for one month after tryouts. This allows for focus on finalizing rosters and selecting coaches.
Tryouts are typically held the 3rd Monday of July (unless noted otherwise)
